In the year 2016, the Hong Kong Nephrology will conduct a Diabetic Nephropathy Action Project (the ‘Miyako Project)  with the aim to tackle this situation. The scheme will include the upgrading of the clinical apps to assist doctors in treating this condition, lectures to doctors (CME) throughout Hong Kong and the organize a Diabetic Kidney Camp.

Management of diabetic nephropathy with clinical decision support

Diabetic nephropathy is the commonest cause of end-stage kidney failure in Hong Kong. It is caused by long-standing diabetes mellitus.

Treatment of the condition is difficult because the drug usage depends on the eGFR which is difficult to calculate. To solve this problem, Dr Ho Chung Ping developed an ipad and iphone application to help the doctors to manage diabetic nephropathy.

This clinical decision support tool is the first of its kind and can be downloaded at Apple Store for free use by doctors and health care providers at https://itunes.apple.com/app/id623699207
