A dialyser is usually called an ‘artificial kidney’. The haemodialysis machine delivers the patient’s blood and the dialysate to the dialyser, where dialysis takes place.  The toxins are carried away by the dialysate. There are many types of dialysers, but modern dialysers are almost certainly hollow fibre dialysers.

Ms Tam Yeuk Ming and Ms Hannah Yuen explained the function of the dialyser and dialysate. Dr Ho Chung Ping touched on the history of their development.
