The Slow Low Efficiency Dialysis (SLED) is a modified dialysis method in which the dialysis efficiency is reduced.  As a result, it is less stressful to the heart and the body system.  Because of its low efficiency, it is usually carried out daily.  It can be used in acute kidney injury patients when the conditions are unstable.  There is no need to use special dialysis machines and the patient may not need to stay in the ICU.  It is now increasingly used to treat acute kidney injury patients.
